Highway 11 Project

Posted on July 11, 2018

The City of Picayune is scheduled to begin relocating gas, water, and sewer lines along the east and west sides of highway 11 north on the 13th of August. This is being done because the Ms. Department of Transportation plans to widen the highway between Cayten street (by Gipson Family Medicine at 1702 highway 11 north) to Lakeshore Drive (entrance to Hide- A -Way Lake). Work is planned to start at Cayten and progress northward on the east side first then the west side from the north to the south. However many things might affect this plan. Letters describing this project was delivered to business owners Thursday, July 5th. The utility relocation portion of the project is scheduled to be completed in 6 months. Power and communication companies will relocate their utilities after the City has completed their portion. Ms. Department of Transportation is scheduled to begin widening construction once all utilities have been relocated. This is anticipated to occur spring of 2019.

Street B Project:
The City will begin the rehabilitation of Street B in the Industrial Park Complex south of Martin Luther King Blvd. the week of July 19th. This will include some minor repairs of Street A that intersects MLK Blvd. Vehicular traffic on Street B to the businesses will not be shut down, however, will be more congested since the road work will be done one lane at a time. Traffic control will be present during the work. The project is scheduled to be completed by August 16th, however many factors could affect this schedule, the weather being the most certain factor.

Questions regarding these project should be addressed to the office of Public Works at 601-799-0602 or “311” between the hours of 7 am to 3:30 pm Monday through Friday.
