January Newsletter from City Manager Jim Luke

In my many years with the City, 2018 proved to be one of the absolute best. It was literally an award winning year.
The City won the Main Street Hometown Hero Award and the Mississippi Municipal League of Excellence Planning and Development Award for Crosby Commons.
In addition, Mississippi Recreation and Parks Association presented the City with the Hayward “Bo” Phillips Design Award of Merit for Crosby Commons’ Design and Development and the Therapeutic Programming Award of Merit for Buddy Ball. Many special thanks to our Kiwanis Club for their sponsorship of this amazing community program.
And on top of all that, the City was recognized for becoming an affiliate with Keep America Beautiful and the Scenic Community of Mississippi for 2018.
The holiday season was kicked off by a mayoral lighting ceremony and the year was closed out with many magical events in our historic downtown. Christmas in the Commons, Shop by Candlelight, Christmas on the Rails, Christmas Pilgrimage, and the wonderful Christmas Parade all have been a nostalgic way for our City to come together.
In closing, I would like to say I am truly blessed to work for such an amazing Mayor, Council, and staff who all love the City we call Picayune. We have assembled a great team and are committed to the citizens we serve. The leadership at City Hall possess strong core values, accountability, fiscal responsibility, transparency, integrity, and compassion. Our spirit here sees no finish line. We can always do more and strive for a better City. It’s not how well we have done but how well we do tomorrow for our community. I would like to express my deepest gratitude for our local civic organizations. I believe the best is yet to come.
