New Park Public Meeting
I would like to take this opportunity to invite the community to a Public Meeting that will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at 5:00 pm in the City Hall Council Chambers. Mayor Pinero and Council would like to receive community input on the future plans, vision, and reuse of land where the old Crosby Hospital was located. Many great suggestions have already been received such as a walking track, beautiful landscaping, and an amphitheater. We will be working with the Crosby Arboretum on selecting plants, flowers, shrubs and trees that would be appropriate to plant in each area.
Beautification of Historic Downtown District
I am also proud to announce that our beautification of Historic Downtown District continues with the addition of 28 wooden planters. These planters were recently placed at the old Crosby Hospital site and in the Historic Downtown District. The planters were built from recycled lumber from the old wooden walk bridge at Mildred Mitchell Park. When the lumber was removed to make way for the rehab of the walk bridge, it was determined there was still some life left in the wood. To our surprise the old lumber that might have ended up in the landfill are now beautiful planters thanks to the crafty hands of our Facility Maintenance Department.
