2022 Veteran of the Year

Ladies and gentlemen, it is an honor and a pleasure to introduce to you the City of Picayune Veteran of the Year for 2022, Mr. Morgan Bennett.
Morgan is a lifelong resident of the Picayune area, and he enlisted in the Army to go to war at the age of 19. During his time in the regular Army, he served in Vietnam from 1970 to 1971 with Bravo Battery 3rd of the 16th Artillery and finished out his regular Army career with the 2nd of the 2nd Recon Cavalry in Germany.
After leaving the regular Army, Mr. Bennett continued his service for the next 32 years with the Mississippi National Guard Headquarters 890th Engineers unit, during which time he was deployed to Iraq in 2003-2004 for Operation Iraqi Freedom at the age of 55. He retired in 2005 at the rank of Sergeant First Class (E-7) after almost 35 years of service to his Country.
We appreciate Sgt. Bennett’s courageous and honorable service to our country!
